L’esprit du voyage
This self-drive road trip allows you to cross the coastal Sahara on both the Moroccan and Mauritanian sides. We pilot our vehicle in pairs on a long road following a north-south axis, connecting Tan-Tan south of Agadir (Maroc) to Nouakchott (Mauritanie) or Dakar (Sénégal). Numerous detours allow the discovery of the most beautiful sites in the Sahara via tracks passable for ordinary vehicles: gueltassof Khaoui Nam, the barchan desert of Amgriou, White Dune, desert and beach of Banc d'Arguin.
We have the possibility of undertaking this raid with our own vehicle (4x2 or 4x4), with a second-hand vehicle purchased at low cost for this purpose to be resold for the benefit of a humanitarian cause, with a vehicle rental without driver or even aboard a rental vehicle with driver.
Several optional facets are offered to us to enrich our journey: humanitarian, ecology, gastronomy, meetings with locals, fun challenge.

Ksar Tafnidilt, gateway to the Moroccan Sahara
Meal: welcome dinner included
Wild camping near the old fort in the oasis, under the palm trees. We can observe camels drinking here.
From Marrakech, crossing the western High Atlas to Agadir via the new motorway offering impressive panoramas.
We have the possibility to do last-minute shopping at one of Agadir's supermarkets or stretch our legs on its immense sandy beach.
The road continues south via the fortified town of Tiznit then the garrison town of Guelmim famous for its camel souk.
The goal of the day is to gather and meet the organizing team at Ksar Tafnidilt, for the first of the daily aperitif-briefings.
We are already in the desert zone and at the gates of the coastal Moroccan Sahara. Right next to it the old Foreign Legion fort offers beautiful views over the marshy valley crossed by the Drâa as well as sandy hills.
Depression and Khaoui Nam Canyon

The continuation along national road no. 1 is full of interest and passes through several sites worth a photo stop: silted wadi mouths, a natural sinkhole, cliffs…
We regroup at Akhfenir before embarking on good tracks in the desert depression of Khaoui Nam. The adventure begins!
Wind, sand and saline water have sculpted breathtaking panoramas here, which are moreover very varied. The Khaoui Nam gorge will be the climax of this stage and one of the highlights of the journey.
Will we manage to climb the final stony slope to reach the plateau of ochre-coloured dunes where our camp will be set up? By helping each other, yes certainly...

Sebkha of Tah
Khaoui Nam → Camp Bedouin
This day will have little to envy from the previous one with the discovery of other famous sites of the Sahara marocain.
Thus the Naïla lagoon, surrounded by dunes and where it is possible (if not being too strict about safety) to enjoy a nice boat ride in a fisherman's motorboat.
Then the sleepy village of Tarfaya with its beach from where you can admire the former British trading post in the waves or for enthusiasts the Saint Exupéry photo museum.
Then a stretch of passable track will take us to discover the spectacular cliffs of the vast Tah depression.
Finally it is at the edge of the strange sebkha Oum Dba that the Bedouin Camp team welcomes us for tonight's stop.
Meals: planned in the package at the Bedouin Camp, including their famous camel tagine with dates

Rest Day at the Bedouin Camp
Those among us who came from Europe by road will certainly appreciate this day of rest in the heart of the desert.
The others will be able to enjoy a wide choice of hiking trips of all durations and highly exotic departing from the Camp Bédouin.
It is also recommended that we take the only passable track for ordinary vehicles leading to the nearby dune plateau.
There is also the possibility of discovering the salt pans in the northern part of the Sebkha Oum Dba, not far from the Camp.
Meals: Berber tasting meal included in your package.

Route to Dakhla
Long day of driving towards the Dakhla peninsula, via the towns of Laâyoune and Boujdour. Our roadbook fortunately includes a good number of points of interest which are so many good reasons to take a break along the way: essentially viewpoints from the jagged cliff coastline.
The aim is also to reach Dakhla as early as possible to stock up but especially to take advantage of the attractions of the place: let's admire the exploits of kite-surfers, explore the tip of the peninsula with its fishing village, travel along the wild northern coast, etc.
Meals at the campsite by our own means or with a surcharge by the organization, otherwise half-board at our accommodations; our organizing team rather suggests, at our own expense, a good meal in one of the best restaurants in the city with a view over the bay.

White Dune Excursion
The track access makes the arrival at and discovery of the famous White Dune, an incongruous curiosity at the end of the bay, even more extraordinary. Let us hurry to see it before the site is despoiled by real estate projects.
We should devote the afternoon to making as much progress as possible towards the Mauritanian border so as to approach the next day of border crossing under optimal conditions. Our organiser therefore advises us to cover some three hundred kilometres and establish a wild camp in a captivating natural setting.
The other option is to enjoy Dakhla and its comfort further before then taking the road to Mauritania very early the next day.

Morocco – Mauritania Border Crossing
Dakhla → Nouadhibou
This is undoubtedly the most tedious stage since it involves crossing the Morocco – Mauritania border and dealing with various administrative formalities. The presence of a customs broker to guide us and help us complete the procedures in the right order will not diminish the need to demonstrate unwavering patience!
Once the last barrier is crossed, we will most certainly appreciate the erosion phenomena along the roadside, the views of the light-coloured sand dunes, the landscapes of Levrier Bay, which will entertain us until we reach the city of Nouadhibou.
Meal: after this grueling day, sit down to table for this group meal included at the accommodation
Accommodation: by the bay, in camping organised by us or with a supplement through the organisation, otherwise half-board at our solid accommodation
Humanitarian, Social and Ecological Day in Nouadhibou
Very little driving during this day: we stay in Nouadhibou!
The organizing team offers us a full program combining humanitarian work, ecology and meetings with local residents:
Meeting with children from the school center managed by the Association of Children of Needy Parents, which will receive your possible donations,
Lunch with the children,
Afternoon with young people to raise awareness about garbage collection.
Meals: dinner at a local resident's home with the teachers from the Association, included in our package
Accommodation: Same as the previous night.
Desert crossing to Banc d'Arguin and night in the desert
Nouadhibou → Banc D’Arguin
Banc D’Arguin → Iouik
A few more hours of driving will still be necessary to reach the access point to the Banc d'Arguin reserve. Then we will leave the paved road for four consecutive days of driving on tracks and off-road in the desert.
Although it is possible to complete the journey individually with the roadbook and a GPS, our organizer invites us to nevertheless form a loose convoy and benefit from the services of a local guide, so as to drive with complete peace of mind. Getting bogged down is guaranteed, but never severe, and solidarity will be in full effect. Our organizing team's all-terrain vehicles are never far away anyway…
Wild camping will be set up in the middle of the desert, at the foot of a dune.

Accommodation: wild camping by ourselves or with a supplement if by the organization; possibility of staying with a supplement in a simple camp located one hour's drive away in Iouik
Boat Excursion to the Iouik Islands
Early departure to reach the fishing hamlet of Iouik where we will board sailing boats for the day with fishermen from the Imraguen tribe. Destination: the bird islands!
Depending on the time, we return to the previous day's bivouac site or ideally to another natural site a little further on.
Meals: at bivouac, each participant is invited to contribute to a vast buffet of local produce brought by each person
Accommodation: wild bivouac organized by us or with a supplement if organized; possibility to stay with a supplement at the same simple camp as the previous day
Crossing the Banc d'Arguin by the Beach
Iouik → Baie de St. Jean
We have the most technical stage today, the most intense in terms of driving. With deflated tires, we will need to navigate through the numerous sandy passages and exercise caution in choosing our route.
A barchan dune zone will make a perfect picnic spot, just before reaching St Jean Bay.
This is followed by a very pleasant and exhilarating drive on the beach for over thirty kilometers.
The wild camp will be set up in the ochre dunes bordering the ocean.
Meal: couscous by Hafida, included in our basic package.
Accommodation: no other option than wild camping on our own or with an additional charge if organized by us
Driving on the beach to Nouakchott
Baie de St. Jean → Nouakchott
The day's schedule will largely depend on the tidal schedule: the journey continues along the beach itself, to our great delight, but one particular passage requires crossing at very low tide.
We then rejoin the national road that will take us to the capital Nouakchott and (finally!) to its fuel stations!
Meals: buffet of shellfish and grilled fish included in our package for what will be a first closing meal for participants who need to head back
Accommodation: camping by the Atlantic on our behalf or with a supplement organized by us; possibility of staying with a supplement nearby in a simple inn or in a more comfortable hotel
Negotiation of vehicle sales and returns
Return route for participants who came with their own vehicle or a rental vehicle.
For those who came with a rental vehicle with driver, possibility to take a plane at the airport very close to Nouakchott.
Regarding all others who opted for the humanitarian sale of their vehicle, half-day of negotiation and formalities with the local buyer.
We are advised at the end of the day to attend the return of fishing boats on the beach.

Senegalese border crossing and closing celebration in Saint Louis
Nouakchott → Saint-Louis
For us who are selling our vehicles for the benefit of a humanitarian association, we must leave at dawn towards the Senegalese border. The crossing of the Saint Louis National Park is particularly picturesque, both because of the deplorable state of the road and the natural landscapes that unfold before our windows.
A new administrative test awaits us with the passage of the Mauritania-Senegal border, even though we will be assisted by a customs broker. The vehicles sold are left at the border post and a bus takes us to the Saint Louis campsite.

Passeport
Pour entrer au Maroc, votre passeport doit être valide pendant toute la durée du séjour et comporter au moins une page vierge pour les tampons d'immigration.
Le document doit être en bon état (pas de pages détériorées, déchirées ou modifiées).
Les ressortissants de certains pays de l'EEE peuvent entrer au Maroc avec une carte nationale d'identité en cours de validité selon les accords bilatéraux en vigueur. Il est toutefois conseillé de voyager avec un passeport valide pour éviter tout désagrément.
Séjour touristique sans visa
Les ressortissants de l'Espace économique européen, de la Suisse et du Canada bénéficient d'une exemption de visa pour les séjours touristiques.
Cette exemption permet un séjour pouvant aller jusqu'à 90 jours à compter de la date d'entrée sur le territoire marocain. Au-delà de cette durée, une autorisation de séjour doit être sollicitée auprès des autorités marocaines.
Les autorités peuvent également demander :
un billet de sortie du territoire (vol retour ou continuation),
une preuve de ressources financières suffisantes pour la durée du séjour,
une justification d'hébergement (réservation d'hôtel ou invitation d'un particulier).
Santé et vaccinations
Aucun vaccin n'est obligatoire pour entrer au Maroc en provenance de l'EEE, de la Suisse ou du Canada. Cependant, il est recommandé de s'assurer que les vaccinations courantes sont à jour (diphtérie, tétanos, poliomyélite, hépatite A).
Il est conseillé de consulter un médecin ou un centre de vaccination avant le départ, notamment pour les séjours en zones rurales ou dans des régions isolées.
Voyage avec des enfants
Les mineurs doivent être titulaires de leur propre passeport valide couvrant la durée du séjour.
Dans certains pays européens, lorsqu'un mineur voyage sans l'un de ses parents, une autorisation de sortie du territoire peut être exigée selon la réglementation du pays de résidence. Les autorités marocaines peuvent également demander des justificatifs en cas de voyage avec un seul parent ou un tiers.

Les conditions d'entrée peuvent varier selon la nationalité. Les voyageurs concernés doivent se renseigner auprès de l'ambassade ou du consulat du Maroc de leur pays de résidence.
